Victor Harbor, Beaches, etc.

I haven’t seen any wild snakes here yet. Not that I’m looking forward to it. Seeing the ones in Cleland Wildlife Park was enough for me.

On Saturday, we drove to Victor Harbor (not far from Adelaide). The water around Victor Harbor was just stunning – such a beautiful blue. We walked on the jetty to Granite Island. We saw a big seal swimming around and watched the waves splash against the rocks for some big splashes. I waded in the water and, after feeling the colder water along the Great Ocean Road, this water seemed warmer.

Viv & I took her grandson, Riley (20 months), to another beach – Glenelg. We took the train to Adelaide and then a tram. Quite the adventure but very convenient public transport. Riley wouldn’t get off the towel as he didn’t like the sand on his feet! He also wouldn’t go in the water. What a little man. I went for a wade in the water though even though Riley didn’t.

I’ve been to the CBD (Central Business District) Adelaide a couple of times now and Thursday I’ll go by myself. I think  I can cross the streets safely by myself now.

Today Viv and I went for a drive around the Adelaide Hills to look at the damage the bush fires did. We found plenty of devastation.

Early Friday morning, Viv, Pete and I are driving to Cooper Pedy – on the edge of the outback. It will be an all day drive. I have offered to drive, too. They can be my back seat drivers and tell me to stay on the left hand side of the road and how to go around the roundabouts. I offered my driving services the other evening after dinner and drinks but they didn’t take me up on it.

Cooper Pedy is the opal capital of the world. There are many “buildings” underground. We will be staying in an underground motel and it will be a new experience. The underground rooms maintain a comfortable & even temperature from 23 to 25 degrees C.

After Cooper Pedy, I plan to go on to Alice Springs while Viv & Pete return to Adelaide. Since I’ll be on the road, I do not know when I’ll be able to make my next post. Let it be a surprise!
